What is it
The Child Literacy project targets out-of-school vulnerable children in Chanyanya area. The school readiness project’s seeks to prepare children to enter formal schools by gaining literacy and numeracy skills.
Project Targets
Why Child Literacy?
Chanyanya is one of the rural areas in Kafue district that has a high rate of illiteracy for both children and adults. According to the Educational Statistical Bulletin (2017) there were about 233,436 out-of-school children, a number which grows with every passing year.
Illiteracy has long-term damaging effects on both children and adults; it causes low self-esteem and is also cited as one of the major barriers to development whereby they are not able to perform basic daily activities or avail of employment opportunities that require them to have basic literacy skills.
To respond to these alarming levels, MC-Zambia (MCZ) runs year-long classes in which children acquire access to learning opportunities, are enrolled in formal/government schools, and acquire primary education as a basic right.
